My Walks of Life

the sky does not always blue..so does the life..

Kumon is not Kuman

Abir couldn`t wait for another series of Kumon class although he was merely enrolled to Kumon last month. He was thinking that the class is held daily like his kindergarten. Well, I know why he is yearning to go to Kumon everyday. That’s because in Kumon, the environment is totally different! No yelling, threatening or scolding in order to gain the children co-operation and attention. That is really true. There was one day, where I got the chances to see him attending the class, and I reveal the secret. It is so ironic, seeing him being so attentive and enthusiasts during Kumon.

What is Kumon? It is a center founded by Mr. Toru Kumon, where they believe in :
1. self-learning as the basic component in learning
2. Repeatition until engraved in the subconscious
3. Consistency until they can do it with ease

I get to know about Kumon from the newspaper and later I found out my nieces & nephews (Houris, Ali & Umar) went to Kumon several months ago. My Sister in Law testified what has Kumon did with her kids.

And, so far Abir did great! He loves doing his homework , keep up with the time and more vigilant now.

kumon actually's just like a revision and u can get it from bookstores in the form of buku latihan...for math ah...they'll just repeat the worksheet till u master it...and the questions're not really that special cause its just like any other school work...do u think its worth spending so much on the program just to do the worksheets for many many times???i don't think so...be a smart consumer...

to us, what the buku latihan don`t have is the coach. we`re only able to guide, supervise and support my son doing the worksheets, but not trained to coach and mentoring him. the other is, i believe in kumon method, not because they are giving my son the repetitive sheets, but the value of discipline, self-learning and preseverant that us as parent couldnt afford to offer due to hectic work days.well, no one has a mutual opinion on some issue right.anyway, its only RM120 per month as compared to other leisure expenses.
